An already upcycled halter top is once again transformed into embellished halter top with fringe, lace, and sequin trim details. This top is perfect for social gatherings and dance parties!

This semi-transparent black halter top was first bought in 2007 at H&M. Usually worn as a layering piece, it was a going-out staple in my closet for many years. However, my personal style preferences gradually changed and I stopped wearing it. In 2012, using a lace dress as an additional material, I upcycled this top to be a lace dress with fringe and lace details.

On the picture below, the original halter top is shown on the top left corner. The neck ties was used to fix the neckline of a maxi wrap dress. The semi-transparent halter top became a lace dress with fringe and lace details with matching lace gloves. The first upcycling project was a success.

After a while, the lace started to fall apart, but the halter top and fringe parts remained in great condition. Therefore, the already upcycled halter top underwent its second transformation. This time, it returned to its original shape but with embellishments that are focused on the neckline.

Process:

FYI, the whole project was done with hand stitching since I didn’t have the right sewing machine needle to handle lightweight, fragile fabric properly.

Firstly, I doubled the fringe layer around the neckline since the top is sheer. I did back stitching to secure both layers to the neckline.

Secondly, I cut the lace remnants into two equal parts. I sew each of them from each side. Starting from the center back, moving towards the front.

Last but not least, the sequin trim remnant was added. I made sure it’s centered at the front before sewing it on. That’s it!
