Some of you might remember that Chris and I got married in 2011. It was a simple civil wedding at San Francisco City Hall and we had a blast celebrating it with some of our closest friends. Earlier this month, we went to the other end of the spectrum for our “second” wedding. We went back to our hometown Jakarta, Indonesia and had an official Sacrament of Marriage plus wedding reception that attracted 450+ guests. Needless to say, the whole affair (from 5am to 10pm) was crazy and I’d like to give just a glimpse of our Jakarta Wedding for 5 minutes or less. So here goes!
After After approximately 3.5 hours of make-up, my MUAH transformed me from a sleepy-looking hot mess (I only slept for roughly 4 hours the night before) to a presentable bride.
Meanwhile, my Ulla Maija dress was waiting for me at my hotel room. I sew in the petticoat the night before so the bottom flares out a bit.
This was my “dumbbell” for the day…the bouquet sure is pretty (I LOVE orange, are you kidding me?) but it could test my triceps for sure!
Soon enough, I was back at my hotel room, having my best friend and Maid of Honor zipped me inside the dress. I laughed happily knowing I wouldn’t have any wardrobe malfunction that day; the dress’ bodice fit like a glove.
The grand yet humble Sacrament of Marriage took place at a church just 10 minutes away from the hotel (in Jakarta, that means it takes about 15 – 30 minutes to get there).
Fast forward to after the Sacrament of Marriage was over at a nearby church, we’re back at the hotel and posed on one of the many hotel stairs.
I have to say thank goodness for our Bestman and Maid of Honor, who continuously supported us tirelessly, keeping our spirits up and our strength intact for the whole day! This picture is perhaps my favorite of thousands we got.
Tada! A rare picture of Chris, who’s looking sooooo handsome and stylish. Rawwrr!
Later that afternoon, after 2 more hours of hair and makeup, the MUAH team transformed to this Old Hollywood Glamor look. I made the birdcage hair accessories myself :)
Shortly after 5pm, we emerged from our hotel room looking like this. Not too shabby, eh?
And here’s us making our grand entrance to the reception room…although that girl on Chris’ right was clearly #notimpressed.
Look how pretty in orange and lace our (fake) cake was! The actual cake was already cut down and packaged prettily in little, more-manageable-to-carry-and-eat cake boxes.
The guests (yep, about 450+ people of them) enjoyed dinner…and by the end of the night, we had SO MUCH leftovers!
The band was awesome; the girl’s voice is KILLER! I want to have that kind of raspy, full quality of hers.
And sometime in the evening, my girls and I made ambiguous hand signs like thiz…
In a blink of an eye, the party was over and we were not feeling hungry at all. 95% of the guests have left and I wanted to spend a bit more time with my best friend. So…
…Everybody look to their left (yeah)
Everybody look to their right (well, some of us did)
Can you feel that (yeah)
We’re paying with love tonight…
It’s not about the money, money, money
We don’t need your money, money, money
We just wanna make the world dance,
Forget about the Price Tag.
The chorus is a bit ironic considering this wedding day’s actual price tag (nevertheless, there’s that sense of achievement knowing we funded this wedding ourselves), but who cares? I can’t help it…the song is now stuck in my head (love ya, Jesse J). Go ahead and finish the song for me, will ya?
Until next time,
