1st Argentine Tango Festival & USA Championship 2011
When I went to my first free class during Bay Area Dance Week 2011, the Argentine Tango instructor let us know that there’s the first ever argentine tango championship happening at Millbrae, CA. Now, I’ve been thoroughly fascinated with Argentine Tango for a while now, so on Sunday, April 24, I decided to check it out (even though I was running a slight fever at that time).
And boy, they were all gorgeous. I didn’t stay until 1 am as the program suggested (to see how the maestros do Argentine Tango), but I did see the grand finale of Salon Tango and Stage Tango category. My favorite couple, Gustavo Hornos and Jessica Salomón of San Francisco (pictured here) won 3rd place and 2nd place, respectively.
I’m kind of bumped that they didn’t win and that the Stage Tango category wasn’t an official category since there were no sufficient competitors signing up for it, but I was impressed by the talents, passion, and techniques shown during the competition that I’m looking forward to next year’s competition very much.
For now, I’d like to share the picture highlights of the competition’s final night (Photography by Christian Hadidjaja), and congratulations once again to all of the winners.
Until then,
Musank

I Wish This is My House
Ever since I first fell in love with dancing, I always dream of having a dance studio in my future home. The presence of a decent-size dance studio that’s filled with sunlight is such a fountain of inspirations that will enable me to subconsciously work out everyday (what can I say, I hate gyms).
So when I saw this 3-storey house designed by Junichi Sampei of a.l.x. to a couple in Yokohama, Japan that wants to have an “adequately-sized dance studio”, I immediately started thinking, ‘How can I get Junichi Sampei to design this kind of house for me?’. Not that I have the money, mind you. But this house is just so……edgy. And functional. Practical. Beautiful. Efficient. In other words, j’adore. See the full post (complete with floor plans and more views) and observe if you fall in love with it just like I do :)
It’s Wednesday!

Daily Beast – Culture in 2011
Right off the bat, Daily Beast has made me so excited about what’s to come in 2011 (it’s almost a week already!!!). Except for Justin Bieber, of course. Or Britney.
I am especially excited to see what Lady Gaga will bring in her “Born This Way” album, as well as the new fashion trends in 2011. We’ll see how people interpret the trends in their personal style. Haruki Murakami’s “IQ84″ is also interesting, I’ll have to get a copy. Ah, so excited. Anything that gets you excited in viewing the Daily Beast gallery?

WSJ’s interview with Angela Ahrendts: Earning Her Stripes
Sometimes people do not understand or appreciate the importance of brilliant business in fashion industry. Just because you can make great clothes every season does not necessarily mean you’ll gain a ton of loyal following, especially when you’re a big fashion company like Burberry.
When Sartorialist posts a link to WSJ’s interview with Angela Ahrendts, the Burberry CEO, I just had to read it. This is someone with grace, poise, and humility, leading a 2 billion company, constantly striving to bring wider appeal to customers, enforce brand loyalty, and keep the numbers up during the downturn. A truly inspiring articles for fashionistas and non-fashionistas alike, and I highly recommend it.
Cheers,

Women: Photo Images by Nikola Borissov Photography – photo.net
For those of you who are my FB friends, you know sometimes I feel the urge to plan a photo shoot and model. Maybe it’s narcissism, maybe it’s curiosity, maybe a little bit of both plus something more. Either way, I love getting inspired by a specific location or garment or weather or a particular magazine page. The brain rush I feel right after to plan various things on the spot (yes, I do become a spontaneous statue sometimes in the middle of the street or at some Borders aisle) is just so amazing.
Nikola Borissov is my next inspiration for future photo shoot. Her shots are stunning, the ladies are beautiful, strong, sharp, funny, and bold….I especially love the black-and-white pictures. Check them out and see if you get inspired as well. If not, at least you can admire these gorgeous shots.
Happy Thursday,
Musank
