With temperature hovering over 90F this Labor Day weekend, switching my mindset to fall weather dressing was (still is) hard to do. Alas, the fall season is officially here and the temperature is bound to head for sweater weather sooner or later. So I spent part of my long weekend assessing my wardrobe’s readiness for fall season, as well as going over my blog content queue for any last minute fall/winter lookbook inspiration before NYFW starts very soon.
Thank goodness I did that, because I rediscovered Steven Tai Fall/Winter 2015 lookbook, a long overdue feature that fell through the crack. This emerging designer was born in Vancouver, and he studied in London’s Central Saint Martins and previously worked with Viktor & Rolf and Stella McCartney. In 2012, he started his own label, which soon got noticed by Yohji Yamamoto.
Steven Tai‘s design is confident, quirky, endearingly “nerdy” and refreshing. It’s no wonder he’s gaining more international recognition after his debut at New York Fashion Week in 2013, being part of Vogue Italia’s ‘Vogue Talents’ exhibition in Milan, and joining the prestigious Centre for Fashion Enterprise pioneer program in London.
Just look no further from Steven Tai Fall/Winter 2015 lookbook images below. Even though they are full of layers, the word “heavy” never comes to mind. Instead, “cozy” and “refreshing” emerge, the latter quite unusual to identify with fall weather. The layers of fabric with pastel and navy colors, coordinated beautifully with the light-colored setting are very chic, fashion-forward, and comfortable. Topping the design elements with those cats – either in textile prints or appliques – make them look really modern yet homey, stand out yet approachable.
It’s just brilliant.
