The latest collection from SF Bay Area based designer Vasily Vein are molded like royal attires and beautiful like spring flowers. Photos by Nicolas Ardelean.

On May 1st, 2015 at Mishin Fine Arts, 445A Sutter St., San Francisco, local designer Vasily Vein unveiled his Spring 2015 collection. Vasily’s designs are known to be sophisticated, elegant, and extravagant, and last year I described his collection as Russian royals. Big ballgown silhouettes coupled with fitted bodices with oversized sleeves, lapels, or off-shoulder details are effortlessly executed season after season, and this time was no different.

The first look that graced the runway was a gold top with oversized lapels and circular flounce sleeves, coupled with a pair of blush-colored wide pants. I LOVE the pants. Interestingly enough, the colors of the first look was the softest of all 15 looks. The rest of the outfits have bolder combinations of red, turquoise, teal, white, black, and floral pattern prints. Four other top/pants combos followed suit, each with their own oversized details.

Skits replaced pants for the next few looks. For all of them, the top halves were bold and empowering, while the bottom halves were feminine and flirty. My favorite is the flower patterned white top with matching circular skirt with box pleats, tied together with red ribbon on the waist. The show concluded with a trio of dresses: a high-low silhouette of a pretty off-shoulder number, an A-line gown with covered front but dramatic open back, and for the most dramatic of them all….a tulle ballgown for a little model. She was all serious during the runway walk, and she remained that way throughout until after the finale. But no matter, the audience loved her!

For this fashion show, Vasily Vein collaborates with Jamie Huang (Makeup/Hairstylist) and Nicole O. Fike (Artistic Hairstylist). Browse all 15 looks below. Special thanks to Nicolas Ardelean for the runway photos!

So what do you think? Do you have your favorites?

Being able to look at these garments up close, I feel that although I have my favorites, some looks look a little hard to pull off. For example, the top with big flounce peplum detail on the waist coupled with circular skirt. The big flower patterned fabric in bold red and yellow only accentuates the challenge. However, big bold flower patterns aside, Vasily’s design execution skills are as strong as always. They move and flow gracefully on the runway. No doubt these bold beautiful spring attires can make you feel like princesses.

Thanks for reading; until next time,
