Origami Top

Six Square Origami Top

In a Nutshell

Following visual diagram of a Handwoven March/April 1996 article, the origami top is made using square shaped pieces. Due to remnants limitation, the square pieces are made by attaching two isosceles right triangles. This top is an excellent way to upcycle fabric remnants and do simple pattern manipulations.

The 6-square origami top is simple, and can be made in highly personalized manner according to the sewist’s preferences and creativity. The two 6-square tops below give a glimpse of how two practically identical tops have completely different vibes due to the chosen fabrics, seam finishes, and pattern manipulations (i.e. using two triangles to form a square).

Key Materials

The main materials for this DIY Fashion project were knit fabric remnants / old pillowcases. Industrial sewing machine sewing, an overlocking machine, and hand stitching tools complete the tool list.
