ILJA Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015 collection titled “Tournavolta” showcases bold colors and shapes representing nature. It’s safe to say I want pretty much everything in this collection.

It’s very exciting that my final post about Paris Haute Couture Spring 2015 week is about ILJA, a label that I adore since I first knew in 2013. Dutch designer Ilja Visser, who studied fashion at Arnhem School of Arts and worked with New York fashion labels Donna Karan and Maria Cornejo, has that rare talent of effortlessly balancing fashion and art in her designs. It is no wonder that Ms. Visser became the first Dutch designer to receive the Cultuur Mode Stipendium award from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds (Prince Bernhard Cultural Foundation) for her innovation and talent within The Netherlands in 2011.

On January 28, 2015, Ms. Visser presented her latest collection titled “Tournavolta” at Garage Lübeck. It’s inspired by motion, and Tournavolta is “a story about rotating motion in nature. Only manmade movement has perfect angles and straight lines, while nature has irregularity, curves and twisting volumes that decorate our planets surface and atmosphere. Perfection might be a concept invented by mankind, but nature has the most beautiful logic and balance simply by just being. Nature and life with its beautiful and divine balance form the main inspiration for this collection.” (from the show notes).

It is this inspiration that makes ILJA Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015 collection looks so alive. Vibrant, fresh, full of energy, avant garde and yet very wearable, the models are each like a bold poetry in motion, and seeing them one after another create a wholesome experience. I really love the pleat placements, as well as the effective uses of earthy colors applied to various silhouettes, volumes, and shapes. The cocoon-shaped silk dresses are the highlights, but that doesn’t mean the pants, jumpsuits, coats, and skirts are any less worthy.

ILJA Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015 collection is bold, fresh, elegant beauty. I want them all; all of the outfits are all amazing.
