Finnish designer Paola Suhonen drew inspiration from the movie The Bridges of Madison County for Ivana Helsinki Spring/Summer 2014 Collection. Captivated by “the visual artistry, accompanied by a beautiful story line, outstanding cinematography and strong mood”, the runway show on Wednesday, September 4th at 4pm at Pier 59 Studios highlighted her signature prints, feminine dresses, light cotton pieces, embroided tunics, and printed jersey pieces, as well as the first Ivana Helsinki’s denim capsule collection. Moreover, Ivana Helsinki Spring/Summer 2014 “Bridges of Madison County” presented two new prints; ‘Iowafly’ and ‘Until We Meet Again’, both are original artworks of Ms. Suhonen herself.

After knowing Ivana Helsinki for the first time last season, I have nine favorite pieces from Ivana Helsinki Spring/Summer 2014. Just like the contrasting shades of love depicted in the movie, Ms. Suhonen’s collection can be innocent, fleeting, romantic, edgy, and sensual…but at the same time, they are very nostalgic. Sigh…I feel like dancing all of a sudden!

The first three dresses that I love from Ivana Helsinki Spring/Summer 2014 Collection are very feminine in shape and strong in colors. The vintage feel of the first look (complete with wide brim hat, white socks and open toe sandals) make me want to go to the Sonoma or Napa somehow. The red lace dress with white collar for the second dress is equal part innocent and cute (not childish), and the third dress’s colors are calming and serene.

This is a no-brainer. I’m a sucker for stripes, plunging neckline for cardigans, and billowing sleeves. So…yeah. I like those denim jeans paired with the plunging cardigan has dotted lines on the side. For the next look, I like the high-waisted, more relaxed silhouette of the denim and the cute duck tank.

Now it’s time to fly away. The top for the first look below looks like they’re just going to fly off of the model’s torso, and the blue leggings are just strikingly beautiful. The white relaxed butterfly tunic/dress that follows are such a versatile piece for spring.

This look below is one of my most favorite pieces from Ivana Helsinki Spring/Summer 2014 Collection. Yes, the flowy silhouette has been done so many times, but selecting the right prints and colors have proven to be tricky for this silhouette. The earthy, minty, flowy feel of this plunging neckline dress is just the right thing to have for spring season. Ugh, how I wish we can just go to fall season, skip winter, and then go to spring!

And last but not least, my personal favorite of the whole bunch. It’s bright deep orange, it has that slight mod feel, it has billowing sleeves, it has matching orange gloves, and topped with the perfect ivory headdress and black heels. That’s just so unique and beautiful for me…it stands out. I LOVE IT!!!
