Featuring a fashion show of Harputs Autumn/Winter 2015 collection at downtown San Francisco’s Clift Hotel. We’re happy to come out supporting beloved Bay Area local designer Gus Harput, whose designs are among our most favorites.

How long has it been since we first visited Gus Harput’s store near Union Square? I don’t remember the exact visit, but I sure recall how much I admire Harputs design aesthetic. The designs look simple but hard to execute, and yet each garments are very well made with exquisite materials. The men’s jackets draw attention, with gorgeous materials and cool details. The women’s garments look smart with subtle accents and custom-like fit. If the garment doesn’t fit the wearer perfectly, Gus and his team will fix it so it does.

It’s perhaps no surprise that both Chris and I own Harputs pieces. They are special, durable, and made in San Francisco. Plus, Gus is such a great person to converse with in addition to being a great designer. The loyal clients will surely recognize Harputs signature pieces, from the Swacket, 3-hole blazer, Kankle pant, Pamper, to the Square Jacket.

On Monday, June 1, Harputs showcased its Autumn/Winter 2015 collection as part of Clift Hotel’s 100th anniversary week. Despite the difficult lighting condition and rather sparse attendance, Gus Harput’s designs worn by (mostly) Scout Model Agency models looked as strong as always. Overall, I think the models did a great job showcasing Harputs designs. The red-taped eyebrows paired with natural makeup look made an impactful minimalist feel, which is exactly what Harputs designs mean to me. Here are some more captures during the runway finale:

I made a wish list for Harputs Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, and I have to follow up with Gus on those. They will not come cheap and I have to adjust my yearly shopping budget, but just with any good investment pieces, they will be absolutely worth it. So congratulations for Gus for a great collection, and we wish Harputs all the continued success as one of the most beloved Bay Area designers.

One last thing I really need to mention is Chris: I’m really lucky to have him as Fafafoom’s photographer. The lighting setup for the fashion show was really inadequate, the colors of the garments were off due to some purplish colored background lights, the runway was mostly unlit….I was really nervous about the results since Chris never uses flash for runway photography. Perhaps I should not expect much from a hotel fashion show setting, but I cannot help feeling unsettled whenever I think about how this affects people’s perception of SF Bay Area fashion scene as a whole.

Anyway, when I was editing the photos, I found my worries unfounded. I fixed the colors during post-processing, but I had no need to sharpen the images. A good photographer’s photos can be taken for granted sometimes, but I will never take Chris’ beautiful captures for granted. Perhaps that’s part of the reason why he’s my husband :)

Thanks for reading; until next time,
Musank
