In a Nutshell
A special apparel design and sewing project to reconnect with my Indonesian roots. Worn at the very first time at African Arts Academy‘s San Francisco MODEFA 2022 fundraiser. A zero waste design inspired by Obra Gris Zero Waste Cake Top pattern.
Key Materials
The main materials for this DIY Fashion project were antique ikat fabric (acquired from a local retired art collector), quilting cotton for lining, and 2″ wide horsehair braid for hem structure and stabilization. This one-of-a-kind Modern Ethnic outfit consists of an overdress with tied up details and a pair of pants.
