Melange 2012 Fashion Show Review
Melange’s vision was all about celebrating diversity through fashion, music, dance, and theather. On Saturday, August 4, 2012, this concept was manifested once again in a lively evening affair of Melange 2012 Fashion Show at Regency Ballroom Hotel, San Francisco. This 2nd annual fashion show production attracted a great, diverse crowd of both local and international fashion enthusiasts, as well as online viewers who watch its live broadcast via VenMundi.
Reaching audience farther and wider this time, Members of Melange’s Executive Board Members Nick Navarro, Talia Romano, Lani Wyche (who was not present that night), and Patrisha Bailey, along with Creative Director / Executive Producer Cristina Ribeiro, Producer Ava Byrd, and Model Coach Bernice Johnson (among others) were giving their all to go beyond last year’s celebration.

Tuan Tran OriWear Debut Fashion Show
Dogpatch Cafe & Art Gallery, 2295 3rd St. is currently hosting “ReCreation”, an exhibition of artwork by Tuan Tran (May 7 – June 30, 2012). But before all that began, there was a Tuan Tran OriWear debut fashion show reception at said cafe on May 5. The evening’s event was a warm, intimate experience. Models, hair stylists, and the rest of the production team moved in a deceptively languid manner one hour before guests were scheduled to arrive. Fits were taken, hair and makeup were polished, and walking orders were established. The always dependable Ava Byrd was in the house and there was no frantic atmosphere to be found; it was almost too eerily quiet at one point, a very unfamiliar feeling for a fashion show that was about to happen in less than an hour.

Tuan Tran WireWear 2011 Review
Galiara The Artists Alley, 863 Mission, San Francisco was weaved into an artful Tuan Tran WireWear fashion show on Saturday, November 26, 2011. It’s exciting to see how the casting call from two months back morphed into such a splendid (AND on-time) art-as-fashion Tuan Tran WireWear production led by Ava Byrd.
I think it’s important to give the appropriate credits for the production team because they did such an excellent job in getting everything move smoothly. In addition to Ava Byrd, special shout outs to MUA team: Coordinator Arlene Coleman, Lead MUA Christian Alvarez (with Berkeley O Bjornsen, Mimi Tran, Kristine Rose) and Lead MUA Regard Tang (with Thazzia Falek, Denise Velasquez, and Rochelle Dingman). Hair is by Bellarmine Salon.

Tuan Tran Casting Call – Sunday, September 25, 2011
Studio 131 at 2345 Harrison St., San Francisco looked cold from the outside on that moderately chilly Sunday, but once you passed that door and went inside, the atmosphere completely changed. It was a pleasure stopping by and hanging out from 1pm to 3 pm at Tuan Tran (pictured right) casting call that day; Tuan Tran’s production team was very warm and welcoming even though they’re running all over the place to keep all things moving in order, the models are gorgeous and friendly, the front-desk girls were really nice, and of course, the recycled-telephone-wire fashion art forms were coming alive.

Highlights from Art Explosion, San Francisco
Coming to Art Explosion on its last day (Sunday 9/18) was the highlight of the otherwise lazy Sunday (which is quite rare for me). Thanks to our friends who frequently visit Art Explosion to view and buy works from emerging local artists – painters, sculptors, designers, we got to see a great deal of high-caliber art. What a great place San Francisco is; we get to see these artists living the art, producing high quality work after work with such passion and drive, it’s all so humbling. If you enjoy art and/or missed Art Explosion, make sure to check out SF Open Studios Exhibition 2011 in October (get your guide), starting out with preview eventĀ ArtLaunch in September 29!
Of course, seeing so many artists at the two locations (744 Alabama St. being my favorite), there’s bound to be favorites. I’d like to dedicate this post to say my word of love to my favorite SF artists :)
Aoi Yamaguchi – Japanese Calligrapher
For those of you who came to J-Pop Summit Festival (where I covered h. Naoto’s fashion show and Baby The Stars Shine Bright dress competition), you might’ve seen her perform on Peace Pagoda stage, Saturday, August 27.
My boyfriend/photographer Chris was so taken in by her art, he purchased one of just-arrived-3-days-ago 1st edition leather bags that has Yamaguchi’s calligraphy design stroked onto it (pictured, left). She also took a picture of him with the bag (so cute!).
A charming, kawaii girl with tremendous talent and calligrapher parents, she’s been doing calligraphy since she’s 6.
