Support O’Lover Hats Indiegogo #hatlocal Campaign!

It’s been a while since I last gave a shout-out to a crowdfunding project, so when I found out that a 25th Street Collective local hatter Elwyn Crawford of O’Lover Hats is launching an O’Lover Hats Indiegogo campaign #hatlocal, I just have to spread the word.

Elwyn Crawford has been making hats for almost a decade; her collections can be found at Goorin Bros in San Francisco. She won GenArt’s “Fresh Faces in Fashion” in 2008, and The Women’s Initiatives “Entrepreneur of the Year” award in 2011 for her focus on sustainable art economies that give back to the community.

Baby The Stars Shine Bright 2012 Fashion Contest

Posted on Aug 31, 2012 in Fashion Reviews, Featured, Japan Fashion | 0 comments

I have to say, this year’s Baby The Stars Shine Bright lolita fashion contest picked up right where it left off last year. Seriously, my initial doubt about this year’s contestants quality (just because last year’s were really amazing) was instantly obliterated.

Outstanding lolita fashion outfits featuring at least one Baby The Stars Shine Bright or Alice and the Pirates garment worn by equally outstanding personalities graced the Peace Pagoda Plaza on Sunday, August 26, 2012. Moreover, this year marked the 3rd anniversary of Baby The Stars Shine Bright’s store at New People (it has been a staple since the building was built). So naturally, a Happy Birthday theme is also incorporated to this year’s contest!

To Be A Fashion Star: Rise of the Unknowns in Fashion

The fashion reality TV show “Fashion Star“, which debuted March 13, 2012 on NBC has drawn mixed reviews. Complicated logistics issue, a fashion reality show game changer, and biased, rather demeaning comparison to Project Runway reviews have been published for the past month. Even now, after 6 aired episodes, speculations whether the show will get another season still rage on.

The future looks very uncertain for the TV show. On the other hand, the show reveals a brilliant, effective business model. One that creates immediate attention, interest, and buying capability right after the show ends; something that wasn’t introduced by other popular fashion reality show like “Project Runway“. And yet this show is just a fragment of the newest nation-wide (or global?) “trend”: Rise of the Unknowns in Fashion.

Tuan Tran WireWear 2011 Review

Galiara The Artists Alley, 863 Mission, San Francisco was weaved into an artful Tuan Tran WireWear fashion show on Saturday, November 26, 2011. It’s exciting to see how the casting call from two months back morphed into such a splendid (AND on-time) art-as-fashion Tuan Tran WireWear production led by Ava Byrd.

I think it’s important to give the appropriate credits for the production team because they did such an excellent job in getting everything move smoothly. In addition to Ava Byrd, special shout outs to MUA team: Coordinator Arlene Coleman, Lead MUA Christian Alvarez (with Berkeley O Bjornsen, Mimi Tran, Kristine Rose) and Lead MUA Regard Tang (with Thazzia Falek, Denise Velasquez, and Rochelle Dingman). Hair is by Bellarmine Salon.
